This is just a brief explanation of what the heck you're supposed to be doing. I know it seems like a lot at first, especially because it's so hard to comprehend what typed words are trying to convey. Everyone learns differently so I am completely okay with you messaging me any question you have about this. However, before asking me for clarification, be sure to read this post to ensure you did your best to figure it out on your own.

Spending Wisely. Owning a shop is largely about common sense. You are given $10,000 at first to buy items from the Warehouse. Knowing that, should the first thing you buy be the most expensive item? Probably not. When you first start off, stock up on the cheap things--after all, the cheap things are probably what people will buy most because they can afford it. Grab a few things from the Foal category, a few from Miscellaneous, etc., and then sit on the rest of the money. You don't want to spend all your money right off the bat because you never know what new merchandise will come in that you'll want to purchase. You should keep at least $5,000 in your log thread after your first round of purchases.
Pricing. This is another thing that really only requires common sense. The prices in the Warehouse are minimums. If you buy an item for $75 and you sell it for $80, your personal profit is only $5. Obviously, that's diddly-squat. You need to think about how big the difference is. My suggestion is you should go about $100 more than the minimum to start. Do not do this with all items, but it is a good guideline to go by. Sometimes you should go only $50 over the minimum and sometimes you should go $200. It really does vary based on the item and its desirability, but $100 is generally a safe net. Likewise, you shouldn't make something ridiculously expensive. If it's $200 in the Warehouse and you price yours at $1,000 then chances are that your competitors will make the sale--also, keep in mind that it can only be 4x the price of the price listed as the minimum in the Warehouse. Perhaps, though, you are the only one who has the item in stock--while that certainly allows for a hefty price, you have to be cautious to keep it realistic. If you price something $10,000 because you're the only one who has it, what customer will be able to afford that? Think about your customers as well as yourself--you need a buyer just as much as they need a seller.
Attention. You really are going to have to keep an eye on the Warehouse. There will be no indication that anything has been updated-- it won't say New, it won't show up on the home page, it won't be messaged to you, it won't even be posted. I will simply modify the Catalog and it's up to you to notice and take advantage. You should make a habit to check the Catalog every other day, once a week, every day, whatever floats your boat. Just know that the more you check, the more likely you are to score the really good items.

Basics. Chances are, you'll develop some competition with other stores. Maybe there's a particular one you really rival. Maybe you've decided to specialize in Foal items and so did someone else and ever since then you two have been competing like crazy to sell more. Or, maybe, you simply want to make a profit--even if you aren't intentionally competing, you are always competing if you want a profit. Because of that, you have to keep an eye on the other stores. If you put something as $75 and never look at your competitor's store, they could start selling it for $50 and win the customer. So be smart!
Adapting. Say you bought an item that had a minimum of $500, you priced yours at $800, and then your competitor priced theirs at $750. You're going to have to lower your price if you want to sell it. It doesn't have to be drastic, maybe $740. You just don't want yours to be the more expensive pick for buyers. Get creative with it--you can put it on sale to attract attention. After all, nothing grabs a buyer's attention more than a thread that says "BLOCK ALL FOR 50% ON SALE!" Don't be obnoxious with it and make everything "on sale." That's probably going to make buyers start ignoring your "sales." But if you and your competitor are really getting intense-- he lowers $5, you lower $2, he lowers $10, you lower $20, and it's going on and on and on, maybe it's time to start figuring out how to make yours stand out more.
Advertising. Take advantage of the Supply & Demand board. You may post there to evaluate what it is someone wants, read people's post to find requests for certain items, or advertise about an item you just can't seem to get rid of. There are a lot of shops. Even if yours has the best item ever, maybe no one has bothered to check your inventory, so making a notice about it in Supply & Demand may be very beneficial.
